How to Filter Fluoride to Increase Fertility and Improve Health (The Cheap, Easy Ways)

As a result of large-scale industrialization, we now put many substances into our bodies that we didn’t 100 years ago. Unfortunately, many of these substances have been proven to very harmful to us. One of these substances is fluoride, which is damaging to our overall health, lowers our IQ, and lowers our testosterone.

In this article, we will talk about how to filter fluoride. We will discuss the background of the issue, the easiest and cheapest ways to filter fluoride from your water supply, and why it matters a lot for your health. This article will also mention some other contaminants commonly found in water as well, but the focus will be on fluoride.

Fluoride has been added to the water supply in the United States in the name of “helping your teeth.” Unfortunately, this couldn’t be any further from the truth. Additionally, most of the fluoride put in the water is a harmful byproduct of fertilizer known as hydrofluorosilicic acid, and in many cases, a poorly quality-controlled product of China. Whether it’s natural or not, it’s simply not good for us.

Many people don’t fully understand the background of fluoridated water or are quick to write it off as only a “conspiracy theory” without looking at all of the evidence. Others more or less understand its dangers, but don’t think removing fluoride will make a difference in their health or how they feel.

Others simply don’t want to put in the effort, or they don’t want to spend what they believe costs hundreds of dollars or more on a filtration system. And others are uneducated on the controversy altogether.

I understand all of this, and I aim to educate you and solve all of your concerns.

This article is designed to give you a background of the issue, link you to plenty of solid research on the problem, and most importantly, to give you easy, actionable steps to almost entirely remove fluoride from your drinking water for the cheapest cost possible to you. It really is a lot easier than you might think!

Please note that I am not a doctor and nothing here is in place of well-informed medical advice. Also, note that I receive a commission off of any sales you purchase from these products. I recommend all of these products because I have used all but one of them extensively and because they do a great job of what they’re supposed to do.

What is Fluoride?

If you know little about the water fluoridation issue, you undoubtedly want to know what fluoride is all about, and why you should be concerned about it.

Ask your average person and you’ll get different answers. Many still believe that fluoride has been added to the water to prevent cavities. Others have been cued into the lie that fluoride is to varying degrees. Overall, the general knowledge of the issue is fairly low, like many other issues that matter, but some people have surprised me.

The reality is that fluoride is a neurotoxin that damages your sperm, lowers your IQ, causes bone and thyroid problems, causes developmental delays in children, lowers thyroid function, can cause dental and skeletal fluorosis in higher amounts, as well as a host of other issues.

Fluoride has been shown to have a negative impact on men’s sperm count and testosterone levels. There are enough substances out there that lower testosterone, including BPA and soy, so you can just add fluoride to the list. If you filter fluoride from your water, you can remove just one of multiple factors attacking your fertility.

Even if you (somehow) don’t believe all of this, and you still believe fluoride is actually good for your teeth, ask yourself how it helps when you just swallow it? Do you swish water into your teeth when you drink it? I don’t, and neither do the vast majority of people.

At its best, you’re being “medicated” against your will, with a “medication” that has raised a ton of concern, at doses that are very difficult to control (even the CDC admits that too much fluoride causes dental fluorosis). At its worst, and as almost all evidence shows from all the “non-official” (non-government) sources, you’re being poisoned by a dangerous toxin.

Is it Really Worth the Trouble to Remove Fluoride?

This is an extremely common question that people have about almost any health-related subject.

In this case, is it worth the cost and effort of removing fluoride in your water? Will it really make a difference in how you feel and/or your overall health, and is it worth whatever price it costs to remove it?

As you will see, almost all research and tons of personal stories indicate the answer is a resounding yes. Many people report feeling a difference, particularly in their energy, mood, and well-being after they removed fluoride from their drinking water, shower water, toothpaste, and dietary sources.

I personally noticed that I felt significantly more clear-headed after I dramatically reduced the fluoride I was taking in. Prior, I noticed that I was getting a lot more headaches and lethargy in the suburban town that I live in, but very rarely when I traveled to the countryside or overseas. This is what lead me to learn more about this topic.

Some people don’t notice a difference when they remove fluoride from the water. Everyone is different. Whether you feel a difference or not, you will remove a poison that is terrible for your health and has horrible effects on you in the long run.

And ask yourself this: given the fact that countless doctors, dentists, researchers, and so forth have all rung the alarm about its effects on your brain and body, do you want to be wrong, when it’s said to be harmful, and when it’s a very straightforward and relatively cheap process to remove?

Just as importantly, know that removing the vast majority of fluoride from your water is not particularly expensive or challenging! The steps you can take and the products you can use are below, so keep reading.

A Brief History of Fluoride in the Water

Edward Bernays, the nephew of Sigmund Freud and the “father of spin” who wrote the book Propaganda was the one who architected the campaign to add fluoride to the water supply. He is the same man that got women to see smoking as sexy and cool to introduce a new market of smokers for the American Tobacco Company, and who started a propaganda campaign to overthrow the Guatemalan government in the 1950s on behalf of the United Fruit Company.

Bernays was a master of propaganda and media messaging. Bernays believed “the conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society.” He had a low opinion on human decision-making and believed that people needed to be controlled and manipulated for their own good.

So Bernays put out a PR campaign to make the masses believe that fluoride is actually good for their teeth. His vast access to resources, his reputation, and his deep knowledge of human decision-making aided him in this task. He was able to get many dentists and physicians to say fluoride is good for teeth. Prior to this, the public knew fluoride as an ingredient in bug and rat poison.

Master persuaders will tell you that in absence of decisive information, people take shortcuts on decision-making. This often means they go along with the sheer quantity of authority figures that tell to believe a given statement. The more unsure people are about a given fact or circumstance, the more this holds true.

Most people are simply not experts on such manners as fluoride. Bernays knew this, and this is how he targeted public opinion on fluoride.

If you think that the government would never do anything to hurt you, think again. Whether it’s for pure profit, out of incompetence, or if it’s totally intentional; it doesn’t really matter. The most important point is that fluoride is in your water, it’s bad for you, and removing it from your system is both easy and inexpensive.

How to Know If Your Water is Fluorinated

Fluoride has been banned or rejected from many countries, but the practice occurs in 25 countries to varying degrees and approximately 75% of the United States.

Therefore, if you live anywhere near a major city in America, fluoride is most likely in your drinking water. If you live outside of the most densely populated areas of the United States, especially if you have a well, you are probably not drinking fluoridated water. However, fluoride is still in your food products, so I recommend scrolling to the food section at the end of this article.

Use the CDC’s site to check water fluoridation by state here, and many of the water systems in your county here. Like most government services, this site is not likely to be in any rush to provide you the most accurate and updated information. My educated guess is that it’s mostly accurate. You can always do your own individual research by using a search engine to find out your water supplier and give them a call.

If you live outside of the U.S, again, here are the countries that currently fluoridate their water. Note that only two countries fluoridate all of their water, Hong Kong and Singapore, but 9 others fluoridate over 50% of their water, and 14 others fluoridate less than 50%.

If you’re outside of the US, you should be able to look up your area in Google and see if its water is fluoridated or not. Use a search engine and make a phone call to the local water company if necessary. You can also do this research in the United States and most other countries by searching “water company” + “your town” and giving the company a call if water fluoridation status is not stated online.

If you don’t live in an area where your water is fluoridated, then you’re lucky. That said, I’d still advise reading the rest of this article to understand the issue in more detail, especially since you’re very likely to travel to areas where the water is fluorinated many times in your life. And again, fluoride is almost certainly in your food products, so keep reading.

The Most Practical Ways to Dramatically Reduce Your Fluoride Exposure

Alright, let’s get down to business.

Many guides that I’ve seen online don’t include all the most practical options to filter fluoride from water. Therefore, I compiled this list to make it as easy and inexpensive for you as possible, so you can understand what your options are.

The best, most thorough filter is a reverse osmosis filter. When I first did my research, I only found reverse osmosis filters that had to be installed in the home. I’m not necessarily against this, but it does require some drilling and installation, and I don’t tend to stay in the same place for more than a few years.

So while many may prefer to install their filter into their sink, a water pitcher that specifically removes fluoride is a much easier option. Note that the vast majority of water filter brands do not remove fluoride; you have to purchase a brand that specifically removes it.

As you may have guessed, this leads us to..

The Aquagear Water Filter Pitcher – Removes Fluoride, Lead, Mercury, Chlorine, and More

The Aquagear Water Filter Pitcher is your most viable, reasonably priced product to almost entirely remove fluoride from your drinking water. It’s transportable and extremely easy to use, and it’s BPA free, meaning it has no gender-bending hormone disrupters that are poisoning our environment and turning men into lady-boys.

This pitcher is absolutely worth every penny. It removes almost all harmful contaminants from water. It also makes the water taste great (almost as good as the best brands of artesian water I’ve had).

It doesn’t use a reverse osmosis system, so it retains certain minerals such as magnesium and calcium in the filtered water. The results of filtration tests from an independent lab are on their website. It virtually eliminates lead, chloramine, chromium-6, lead, trihalomethanes, and a lot more.

And as you will notice, this pitcher receives mostly very positive reviews. A few reviews mention slow filter speed, but mine and the other two that I’ve seen used have not had that problem. I’ve seen one filter slowly at first until it sped up after about a week of use. All the water I put into the pitcher filters through within just a few minutes. Per the company, all the common complaints have been fixed with improvements as of 2017.

This is overall the easiest and most cost-effective way of drinking purified water. Maybe $70 sounds a lot to you, but it’s dirt cheap in comparison to what other filtering methods will run you.

Replacement filters are recommended every 4-6 months and cost you $50 for one or $90 for two. They last for 150 gallons of filtration, which is significantly longer than other companies such as Brita, which typically go for 40 gallons.

Note that this pitcher does not remove all of the fluoride; it removes approximately 90% of it. This will bring down fluorinated tap water in most municipalities to approximately the same level as most brands of bottled water. While I would prefer to have none, drinking less than 10% of the fluoride in your tap is significantly better for your health than drinking 100% of it. I looked around, and there are no filters of this type that remove all fluoride.

Propur Showerhead Filter

After you learn how to filter fluoride in your drinking water, you must also filter it from your shower water.

You absorb approximately as much fluoride and chlorine in your skin after a 10-minute shower as you do from one to two liters of drinking water. This is a significant amount of both chemicals, and should not go ignored.

For this, the second major product that I recommend is the Propur Showerhead Filter. It is easy to install and works very well. It also removes chlorine, which is a very suspect chemical as well.

This shower head filter is well designed and easy to install. It screws into the most common shower head design; the company says that it fits in 99% of shower head designs. All you need for the vast majority of showerheads is to use an adjustable wrench to unscrew the shower head, then screw the filter on by hand. It takes only a few minutes.

A showerhead filter will filter out a significant chunk of fluoride, but not all of it. It will, however, filter out almost all other harmful contaminants. If you want to remove ALL of the fluoride, a reverse osmosis system going into your shower water is necessary.

I recommend using this showerhead filter and taking short showers lasting no longer than a few minutes (why would you be in there for so long anyway?). You will dramatically reduce your fluoride exposure, as well as to all other chemicals.

A replacement filter should be installed after approximately nine months of 7 minutes a day of use. This is an excellent filter life. Obviously, if you live with people, you’ll be replacing the filter more, so make sure they limit their shower length.

Overall, your money is very well spent with this product.

Bottled Water

A viable but much more expensive way of drinking unfluoridated water is to drink bottled water. Most brands of bottled water have low amounts of fluoride in them.

The biggest issue, even if you find a cheaper good brand, is the BPA in the plastic containers, since almost all brands have it.

Since the pH and lack of BPA are ideal for a great brand of bottled water, the Essentia brand is the best that I know of. It has a high pH (a good thing), and no BPA in its bottles. The water tastes pure and natural.

Essentia is obviously not the only brand you can drink, but it’s the best overall since it’s BPA free and has a high pH. If you drink other brands, here is the fluoride content of many common water brands. Keep in mind that almost all other brands contain BPA in their plastic.

Another problem with many cheaper brands of bottled water is the lack of quality. For instance, see the ongoing Poland Spring lawsuit. Additionally, almost all bottled water comes in BPA laced plastic containers. If you must drink bottled water, I recommend supplementing with DIM. See the next product.

As you can see, however, the price of bottled water is significant over time. This is why a $70 pitcher filter will save you a ton of money. Bottled water for a year will cost you well into the thousands for any good brand. This is why I don’t recommend only drinking bottled water to avoid fluoride.

Again, note that Essentia has a pH of 9.5. Alkaline water (pH 7 and above) is said to have many positive health benefits. The pH of most popular brands is acidic. If you’re curious, you can pick up these test drops for very cheap, and watch this video on the pH of common water brands.

Again, I am not a doctor, but be careful if you take medications with alkaline water, which is what the Essentia brand is. Definitely ask your doctor before you do this.

You can purchase Essentia bottled water here.

Diindolylmethane (DIM)

Diindolylmethane (DIM for short) is a lesser known supplement that is known for combating the effects of xenoestrogens in the environment, including BPA, by blocking the conversion of testosterone to estrogen.

I will write more about countering xenoestrogens in the environment later. However, if you plan on drinking a lot of bottled water and you don’t take the time to buy a good brand, know that you will be consuming a lot of BPA. Taking this supplement at least once a day will counter many of its effects.

Buy Evolved DIM here.

Other Products You May Be Interested In:

1) Himalaya Neem and Pomegranate Fluoride-Free Natural Toothpaste

This brand of toothpaste is great tasting and fluoride free.

Fluoride absorbs through the capillaries under your tongue. Fluoridated toothpaste causes an unhealthy amount of fluoride to get absorbed through this manner. Fluoride in your toothpaste is about as much of a scam as fluoride in your water. It is not a requirement for your toothpaste.

This toothpaste is not only fluoride free, but it also tastes a hell of a lot better than any fluorinated toothpaste on the market. It simply tastes natural.

There’s really no harm in purchasing a $5.99 bottle of toothpaste, so I recommend you just give it a shot. The taste alone will make you wonder why you ever used regular toothpaste. “Regular” toothpaste tastes fake and synthetic, and this stuff tastes natural. Most importantly, you’re taking another critical step to dramatically reduce fluoride exposure.

Buy Himalaya Neem and Pomegranate Fluoride-Free Natural Toothpaste here.

2) Sports Water BPA Free Bottle Multi-Pack

I highly recommend using these water bottles, or something similar that is BPA free, to store and drink your water.

Used with filtered water, a BPA free water bottle works great. I take these things to the gym and on the road with me all the time. This is an excellent product; they’re very well made, and for about $20 you get three of these water bottles.

If you’re at the gym, you can use filtered water from home and put it in these BPA free bottles. If you’re at work and don’t trust your company’s water supply (which you shouldn’t, unless you have thoroughly vetted it), you can do the same. Hell, you can use them anywhere.

You can buy these BPA Free Sports Water Bottles here.

3) APEC 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System

The APEC 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System is the top rated and one of the cheapest installable reverse osmosis filters on Amazon, at just under $200.

I have no experience with an installed reverse osmosis filter, and therefore I cannot personally vouch for this product. However, judging by the 3000+ customer reviews with an average rating of 4.5 stars, and what I know from my own research, this product is a solid bet if you’re looking to remove the fluoride from a sink.

The installation is obviously free if you do it yourself, but they have an option to have the company professionally install it for about $300.

I prefer to do things myself, personally, because then I know a lot more about how the product works. A professional installation may be a viable option for you if you don’t want to install it and can throw down that kind of money.

If you own a home, this is generally a better investment than a single pitcher. This will filter all the water in the source that it’s attached to, such as a sink, so a pitcher will not be necessary if you’re taking water from the sink. It removes 90%+ of fluoride and 65 other contaminants that may be in your water.

You can buy the APEC 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System here.

Additional Tips: Avoiding Fluoride in Your Food

I won’t go into epic detail here; instead, I will give you the basics and link you to more reading.

In a nutshell, fluoride tends to be in more processed foods and in most beverages. Mechanically deboned meats have a lot more fluoride than unprocessed food, and grape-containing beverages have a lot of fluoride in them as well.

Fluoride is also in pesticides due to its ability to kill bugs, so any food sprayed with the pesticide will contain fluoride in it. Organic food has less fluoride because pesticides are not used. I try to eat organic when I can.

Most beverages you buy contain a lot of fluoride, mostly because they’re made with fluoridated water. Even tea actually absorbs a lot of fluoride from the soil, so unfortunately, tea has a lot of fluoride.

If you want to avoid fluoride in your diet as much as possible without going crazy, you should focus on cutting out processed food and drinks. Most of the fluoride is in liquids as opposed to food. Skip the processed drinks and water from suspect sources and just drink water from a filter instead. If you drink wine or beer, drink imported beer from a country that doesn’t fluorinate, or get it organic.

Go as crazy with this as you want. I recommend using this article as a reference, then use it to create as many good eating habits as possible. A lot of things that have fluoride in them are bad for you anyway, particularly processed food and drinks. The biggest thing for me was having to give up tea and getting alcohol from other sources.

Conclusion

TL;DR: Fluoride is very bad for you. The two most important products I recommend are the Aquagear Pitcher Filter and the Propur Showerhead Filter, while limiting your shower time to just a few minutes. After that, I recommend picking up a tube of fluoride-free toothpaste for $5.99. All of this advice will run you less than $150, just don’t forget to replace your filters when the time comes.

Overall, this article should have been a huge help to those who want to learn more about the water fluoridation issue and how to filter fluoride from their water supply. This article is the summary of months of research I did on the issue, and from the purchasing and testing the majority of the products mentioned above. Hopefully, this explained the issue in detail and made it easy for you.

Following these tips closely will dramatically reduce your fluoride exposure, which will have many benefits for your mood, overall well-being, and testosterone levels.

If you found this article useful, spread the word by sharing it with anyone who may be interested.
